Luminare Foundation Joins Global Call to Ban Nudifying Tools & Protect Children from Exploitation

Pune, India  – Today, on Safer Internet Day ( 10th February ) , Luminare Foundation stands with over 100 organizations, institutions and individuals globally to demand urgent action against nudifying tools—technology designed to create non-consensual nude and abusive imagery, disproportionately targeting children and women.

These tools fuel sexual exploitation, extortion, and harm, yet remain widely accessible with impunity. Together with Child Helpline International, INHOPE, the Internet Watch Foundation, NCMEC, Offlimits, Safe Online and We Protect Global Alliance, we call for:

  • Global recognition of the irreparable harm these tools inflict.

  • Accountability for tech companies to implement safety-by-design protections

  • Legal bans on development, distribution, and use of nudifying apps and functionalities.

Luminare Foundation believes that these technologies, often disguised as apps or online filters, pose a grave threat to privacy, dignity, and safety—particularly for women, children, and vulnerable communities.Such tools enable deepfake exploitation, cyberbullying, harassment, and revenge porn, fueling a dangerous rise in digital abuse. They undermine trust in online spaces and exacerbate gender-based violence in the digital age. No innovation justifies violating consent or exploiting personal images without permission.
